Detroit Anniversary Session | Ten Years

There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting not just the beginning of a marriage, but the legacy that follows. I had the honor of photographing a Detroit anniversary session for Jon and Aubrey as they celebrated ten years together. It was a rare sixty degree March morning in Michigan, reminding us that summer is just around the corner.

We began the morning at the iconic Michigan Central Station, where timeless architecture and soft light created the perfect backdrop for such a significant milestone. Aubrey wore her original wedding earrings—a sentimental detail that tied this season of life back to the day it all began—paired with a chic, long-sleeve off-the-shoulder dress that felt both modern and effortlessly elegant. Jon complemented her look in a tailored black suit.

From there, we made our way to the front marble staircase and detailed iron black doors of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Jon and Aubrey reminisced about their wedding day, recalling moments that now feel both distant and deeply present. It’s in these conversations—woven between frames—that anniversary sessions truly come to life.

We ended the morning at Campus Martius Park as the city buzzed around us, in an alleyway with a V-shaped black architectural structure. They shared about their recent move, new home, and the beautiful chaos of life with their four young boys. Their story felt especially full—no longer just newlyweds, but partners who have built a life rich with meaning.
